Learn a wide array of musical styles, feels, and techniques.
Over the course of my musical career I have had the pleasure of working with students with a wide range of ability, age, and experience. Regardless of where you might be on the scale of ability and experience, I always find ways to help my students advance and get to the core of their musical interests, while working on areas that might need improvement. My drumming career is one in which I have had the good fortune to perform in a wide variety of musical styles. These include Latin, Jazz, Brazilian, Big Bands, Funk, Rock, Orchestral, and Rudimental Drumline style. A speciality I have to offer my students is in the area of technique. I was a snare drummer and technique instructor for the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. I have a BA degree split between Classical Percussion and Jazz Performance from San Jose Sate University.
Technique, groove, feel, reading, musicality, are important elements in a good drummer so I focus on this in my teaching. My musical versatility gives my students beneficial insights in the wide world of drumming.
